Getting A Good Drunk On

Published on 06/20/2012 by in Major Loss

So, there I was sitting at my parents place Sunday last, and I came to the conclusion that I should walk home, rather than drive. My weather radar showed that I had roughly 90 minutes before the rain showers would hit our little area of the world. I pronounced to the family, “I am going to walk home”. They stared at me, and wanted to see if I’d been drinking or something. You see, since the day I turned 16 (driving age here in Ontario, Canada) there have been so few times that I would actually walk anywhere. To the Mall, to school, to soccer, friends houses, to that party

Waking Up To Wonderful Smells

Do you remember as a kid waking up to the smell of food cooking? How it made you feel all warm inside? Likely your mother was up at the crack of dawn preparing breakfast full of yummy goodness of things like eggs, bacon, sausage, toast with jam, or honey, and fruit. That’s what we woke up to this morning. Before retiring last night, Deann set up the crock pot and set to cooking a pork shoulder that I picked up at Goodness Me in Waterdown, Ontario over the weekend.  Always nice to find great pieces of meat on sale!  The pot and pork were prepped, and into its bathtub the shoulder went

Big A** Strawberries

Published on 05/08/2012 by in Major Loss

Deann and our daughter went grocery shopping recently and came home with what appeared to us to be strawberries on steroids. Have a look, and tell me if you don’t agree! One the left, a “normal” strawberry. On the right, the mutant berry, nearly 3 times larger, but sadly not in taste.   Share this on:

Week 7 Progress

Published on 05/03/2012 by in Major Loss

7 Weeks Down and Progress being made! Today marks week 7 of my change in diet and lifestyle.  It’s been a while since I posted, mainly because I have been busy with our websites, my day job, my night/weekend job and finding time to sit down and write something has been difficult. So as I mentioned, today marks 7 weeks since cutting out Gluten, Processed Foods, Artificial Sweeteners, Grains, and Dairy…basically went paleo.  A lot of people comment to me…”I don’t know if I could give up my xxxxx”. Well, here’s the trick.  It’s up to you.  I still have the odd piece of cheese, and even the odd slice

What’s Your Inspiration?

Published on 05/03/2012 by in Major Loss

What is Inspiration? To me, inspiration is a motivating action or influence that results in creative works and productivity of all kinds that touches ones soul. I have a few inspirations.  The first one in my life was a television meteorologist named Percy Saltzmen.  In fact, he’s the very reason why I started to learn about weather from the time I was a small child of 3.  Very few days would be allowed to go by without me seeing his weather forecast on Global TV throughout the 1970’s, and his famous chalkboard. He inspired me to learn, and when talking about something you love, to do so with passion. Those who

Video Games In Our Schools?

Published on 04/24/2012 by in Uncategorized

An article inspired by the following: Weighty Matters: The American Diabetes Association Wants Video Games in Your Kids School Gyms?. One of the major issues I have after having read the report above, is that the ADA (American Diabetic Association) being happy to recommend that Dance, Dance, Revolution into our childrens’ schools for gym is, where do our kids get exercise with this?  In our generation alone, kids have gone from being outside, running and playing with other neighborhood kids the majority of their time; to being inside, inactive, and isolated. Let’s take a quick look at something interesting I noted from the article: Looks awesome right, kids playing DDR were expending more than double the calories

VIDEO: Trailer for Food Inc

Published on 04/16/2012 by in Healthy Eating

An well written and unflattering look inside America’s corporate controlled food industry.  This movie is currently on Netflix in both Canada and US. Please note that this movie is not intended for younger audiences, as it does get a little gross at times for some. V.A.Y.O.R. Share this on:

Getting Kids On Board With The Paleo

Published on 04/15/2012 by in Healthy Eating

It was pretty easy for Deann and I to make the change to a more “Cave-Man’ like style of eating. The more research we do, both inside and outside the Paleo circle, the more it makes sense what we’re doing.  One of the biggest obstacles we’ve had to face in this new way of life, are the kids.  How to get them to buy into what we’re trying to do?  Well, it’s not easy.  Not by a long shot.  If you’re starting your children with a paleo life right from the beginning, it’s a lot easier than to try to do it when they’re older, since they will know little else. As
