Set backs, CrossFit, and Status Quo

Published on 07/18/2012 by in Deann

I realize that it’s been far too long since either of us have updated our blogs. I won’t bother to dispense with the bullshit excuses and “we are BUSY!” reasoning. Summer and life are like that. So, what has been going on with our Paleo journey? Some setbacks. Yes, there have been a few times over the last while where I’ve bent to the peer pressure of not wanting to cause a fuss and just ate the damn burger anyway. Bun and all. Yes I’ve felt like hammered crap for a day or two after…and I dealt with it. Do I try my very best to avoid those buns? Of

Self Experimentation or stop being so damn polite

Published on 06/07/2012 by in Deann

OK, we’ve been on this Paleo schtick for a while, and while I have not been dropping bucket loads of weight, I HAVE been feeling much better and my body is “normalizing” as it where. Much like many of you other Paleo/Primal folks out there I was faced with corporate lunch with clients and forgot to tell the folks responsible for the nosh that I shouldn’t be touching the grains. So, some rather lovely panini’s arrived and like a polite and starving little soul I am, I partook in the company provided lunch. Two days later and I ALMOST feel somewhat normal. Note to self: upon the news that office

Another reason to wear Vibrams

Published on 05/23/2012 by in Deann

{EAV:017379cd556e7b1b} OK, another shameless endorsment by me for Vibrams. For approximately two or three weeks I’ve been wearing my new Vibram barefoot shoes just about everywhere.                         Well, today I had to keep the Vibrams at home in order and opt for my more conventional (and social acceptable in the Business Sector) footwear so I laced up my Nike Shox. I almost regret it. My knees, ankles, and hips are down right painful. I know damn good and well thanks to the funky wear pattern on my Nikes, my gait was off and is resulting in pain. So, back

Vibrams, long walks and new gadgetry

Published on 05/08/2012 by in Deann

Well, I did it…I talked Ian into letting me get some Vibram shoes.                           In a word…LOVE! They are freakin’ comfy, freakin’ practical, and boy do I get some weird looks HAHA. After a few days of wearing them for a few hours doing errands, a few walks around the block and such, my feet and legs didn’t really hurt. I spend my summers either barefoot or wearing my Teva’s (which I love too) so really, I didn’t have much of a “transition” period. I’ve really noticed a difference in my posture and the muscles in my feet

Getting used to this whole “Paleo” thing

Published on 04/23/2012 by in Deann

Actually, I’m not finding it all that difficult as long as I’m well prepared. Those quick snacks and stuff for kids lunches are really about the only things I have trouble with. They are resisting as well…I expected as much given how much bread and pasta they have been given. We’ll just have to keep charging forward and sooner or later they will grow to accept we are no longer having sugary cereals, mac and cheese, cookies, crackers and the like in the house. Haven’t even thought for a moment about the whole fitness issue that goes along with the change in diet. I mean other than opening the door,

Definition of “Results”

Published on 04/04/2012 by in Deann

If you plug this word into the search parameter spot on your dictionary website of choice, you might get something like this: “something that happens as a consequence; outcome.” Makes sense to me…yet it seems to me that very few people seem to interpret “results” in the same manner. Or perhaps the right question isn’t being asked in order to obtain the data to get results. OK, so I ask the question…how do you measure improved health and wellness over 2-3 weeks of a small adjustment to a lifestyle change? Do you use a scale? A measuring tape? Your handy camera on your cell phone or tablet of choice? Or do get “results” by the fact

Week….

Published on 03/27/2012 by in Deann

OK, I can’t sit here and count the weeks. This isn’t a sprint, this is a marathon. There will be ups, and downs. Life can be funny like that. So…coming up on 5 days now that I’ve been primarily Paleo. My only deviations are my coffee cream and raw turbinado sugar. Oh bad girl you say…I say phooey…I get my ONE coffee a day. I used up to 4 a day….travel mug size..not large double doubles. Other than that, I’ve been paying better attention to what I’ve been shoving down my gullet. Result: No measurable loss on the scale. 0.2 does NOT count…I’m sorry…that’s a good bowel movement. So, my

Week 3

Published on 03/19/2012 by in Deann

DO-OVER! I call do-over. I have come to the conclusion that Visalus shakes are not my cup of tea. I often feel bloated, tired, crappy, and there is no movement anywhere….ANYWHERE…. Obviously soy based protein shakes are NOT complementary to my body chemistry. So…Ian and I are going caveman. I have a feeling I’m not going to be able to go 100% Paleo…but I sure as hell can cut out the processed wheat, grain, pasta etc products and do my best to stick to natural foods. Most Paleo plans say no dairy…but I’m going to have a hell of a time giving up my little bits of cheese completely. Especially

Week 2

Published on 03/13/2012 by in Deann

Ugg….no change. No loss..but no gain. Time to do some re-thinking obviously. And I have to figure out how the hell I’m going to find the time and energy to get moving again. I know that’s half of my battle…but damn. So…Ian and I are gonna put our heads together and figure this out….   March 13, 2012: 246 Share this on:
